This term saw fantastic attendance from our Year 11 students and parents at our 1stRaising Achievement Evening. This event saw 8 different workshops running on a variety of topics designed to encourage good performance in this key GCSE year for Y11 students.

Attendees were given an opportunity to listen to expert guidance. One parent’s feedback said: “We both not only enjoyed it, but actually took so much away with us.  It was all totally relevant & incredibly helpful”.  Another parent said: “I think it helped to know that so many teachers are helping to raise the achievement of the pupils so thank you”.

One of the sessions that proved particularly popular involved a speech with Y12 student Bailey Rusz. Bailey was predicted 2 Level 3 grades in his English exams. By his own admission, he struggled in Years 9 and 10, and this led to challenging behaviour and a lack of engagement. However, at the start of Year 11, Bailey decided that he wished to do well in his exams and changed both his attitude and his focus. He applied ideas on growth mind-set and sporting progression to his academic studies and came out with 2 Level 6’s in his English exams. He also passed his other exams with similar high grades. His speech, ‘Changing your mind-set - overcoming low target grades and exceeding expectations’,  proved that the right attitude and motivation can lead to exceptional outcomes.

I want to thank all parents and students who were able to make it on the evening and, of course, the teachers who delivered the workshops.

Mr Davies
Assistant Principal
