The Enterprise Club runs every afterschool on a Wednesday in F16. Students from all year groups are invited to take part and have previously been working in teams to come up with ideas to raise money for School in a Bag (www.schoolinabag.org). The teams have been supported by Edventure, Aster Communities and other local business people. They have had the opportunity to sell products or services at a range of events.

We encourage all students to take part and get involved whatever their interests are. They have fun, learn new skills and it's an excellent addition to their CV.

To enhance knowledge and understanding of enterprise and self-employment we arrange a variety of trips and events throughout the academic year. For example, potential entrepreneurs and gifted and talented STEM students visited the Engine Shed in Bristol to find out about the local developments in Bristol’s Enterprise Zone and to meet local entrepreneurs.

We also run a Year 9 Enterprise Day where the students have the opportunity to work on a live enterprise project and have to present their final ideas to a panel of judges, Dragons’ Den style.

Tycoon in Schools is a national enterprise competition run by Dragon’s Den star Peter Jones.  Students can work in teams to apply for a business loan to start up a new business or enterprise project. All Year 9 Business BTEC students are entered but this competition is open to any students at College. Please see Mrs Hiron-Grimes in F Block for more details.
Each November Frome College hosts a number of events and activities throughout Global Entrepreneurship Week.  The purpose of these is to help students think about business and enterprise and explore the possibilities of self-employment as a potential career path. Students identify and develop enterprise skills and look at the importance of these for all walks of life. All of Year 9 and 10 take part in a stock market challenge, developing economic and financial management skills in the process of competing against each other.
Through the Next Steps Hub we provide support and mentorship for students that want to set up their own business. One example of this is a team of Year 12 students who designed the innovative product Plant Notes and won a Raspberry Pi competition and have set up their own business on the back of this success. They received support through the College and from local business people to submit a business plan to a national enterprise competition. This completion was held by the University of South Wales and out of the numerous entries it received; the team went through to the final four teams and won a runner-up prize of £3,000. The team are now looking to package and sell their business before moving on to University.
