Our Employablity Coordinator, Miss Friend, focuses on employability; CV and interview skills, meeting individually with students to make sure a suitable destination is being planned, organising careers talk events, co-ordinating Years 10 & 12 Work Experience, Year 10 Mock Interviews, and offering information about the Year 12 World of Work Course.
Any students who need help or advice about thier next steps, can drop in to see her in F5 at 8.30am, breaktime or anytime between 3.00-4.00pm. Sixth Formers can also drop in during their free periods. There is also a Job Club held on Tuesdays at 3.00pm in F5.
Frome College welcomes building links with local businesses who may like to give Careers Talks, Work Experience or World of Work Placements or assist with the Year 10 mock interview event. Year 9
- Students focus on settling into Frome College and start to consider their skills and enhancing these from joining clubs and taking opportunities offered to them such as the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.
- Attend three Careers Talks and start to consider their career areas of interest.
- Complete online Sacu Careers test and research careers of interest
- Work Experience launch and assembly- students start to consider suitable placements to explore careers and enhance CV
- Maximising Your Employability Presentation at Year 9 Raising Achievement Evening
Year 10
- Presentation on what makes a good CV & why this is important
- Presentation on ‘Writing your CV.’
- IT room sessions to write their CV
- All CVs marked for students to strengthen and suggestions for improvement given by business personnel
- Interview Preparation Presentation
- Mock Interviews arranged for every student and given by 2 business people, with improvement support offered
- Attend three Career Talks
- Work Experience presentation
- Expectations in the Workplace Presentation
- Week given for attending work experience in a business of their choice
Year 11
- Assembly to highlight routes available after Year 11
- Information sent to parents to help consider options available
- Assembly on Sixth Form and choosing subjects
- Apprenticeship Talk at Careers event
- Maximising Your Employability Presentation, at Raising Achievement Evening
- Individual meeting to discuss student’s plans for post Year 11 and make sure they are appropriate for them and aspirational. Including College or workplace discussion.
- CV improvement sessions offered as part of Careers Talks Events
- 1-2-1 support to strengthen CV
- Job Club every Tuesday after school in F5 for students to research careers, look for jobs or work on job applications with support

Year 12
- Access to Bristol and Pathways to Law schemes for students to attend university lectures in many career paths at Bristol University
- Information sent to students who are on lists as interested in certain careers.
- Opportunities presented to attend prestigious events to help career entry into competitive careers such as Medicine, Veterinary Science and Nursing,
- Advice provided regarding entry into Teaching, Law

Year 13

- Individual meetings with students not planning higher education to discuss destinations plans.
- Meetings with Workplace students to strengthen CV
- Interview skills sessions offered.
- Students will be asked to plan out interview questions and can bring these for improvement advice
- Mock Interviews offered.
- Job Club every Tuesday after school in F5 for students to research careers, look for jobs or work on job applications with support
- Job opportunities information sent to students planning to enter the workplace.
- Gap Year Support and Information provided to enhance employability skills during this time.

I have three children at Frome College, all very different types of learners with different needs. They have all been well supported and well taught with teachers who are caring and committed to their students.
